Survey says: Lost time, more stress, financial burdens
It was a simple survey that went out to commuters during the Teton Pass closure, but the results were telling. The survey was conducted by a handful of Teton Valley, Idaho, nonprofits working to shore up immediate needs after the vital commuter artery closed. The results of more than 120 people polled pointed to higher levels of suicidal ideation, financial hardships, food insecurity and increased drug and alcohol use.
Local 4-Hers heading to State horse competition
Five local girls will be competing next week at the Idaho State Youth 4-H Horse Contest in Rigby. The competition runs July 8 & 9. Keepin’ It Country 4-H led by Renee Zidek, has 5 horse girls enrolled in the Gem County 4-H Horse Project and have competed at the County and District levels in Horse Oral Presentation, Horse Judging, Hippology, and Horse Bowl and have qualified to move on to the State Competition where they will compete against kids from around the State of Idaho.
Teton Valley businesses feel impact; business as usual after Pass opens
Teton Pass is up and going with lines of cars stretching the length of the valley again as tourist season appears to be back in business. The 11.5% grade detour will serve until a permanent fix is in place, a design still in the works as they build the fill back up and continue construction before heavy winter sets in.
As Teton Pass reopens, a sigh of relief
Callie Helm said she’ll never complain about the commute over Teton Pass again. The manager at Snow King’s Grand View Spa has lived in Teton Valley, Idaho, for five years, but she got her first job in Jackson right before the Big Fill Slide wiped out a 200-foot-long section of Highway 22 over the pass on June 8. Commuters driving from homes in Idaho to jobs in Wyoming were forced to detour around the landslide — an additional 65 miles over Pine Creek Pass and around Palisades Reservoir.
Rigby Ace to update parking after zone change approval
The Rigby City Council approved a zone change on June 20 for Rigby Ace, changing a strip of land along 1st South from industrial to commercial. According to Mack Lund, representing Ace at the public hearing held for the zone change application, to help the business be able to fix the parking issues and other odds and ends they need to fix up.

BYU-Idaho first got its start back in 1888, when it was called the Bannock Stake Academy, serving 59 students in total. Their ages ranged from 5-20 years old. In 1923, high school level courses were phased out and it became Ricks College. In the year 2000, Ricks College officially changed into the school we all know today, BYU-Idaho. Following Jefferson County’s decision to not move forward on an Engineering project for the upgrades to Rigby Lake Drive, Rigby’s City Council has elected to vie for their partnership once again before the passage of an important grant deadline. While the two municipalities continue back-and-forth discussions on the project, land owners surrounding the area continue to oppose both county and city involvement.
