Cleanup efforts available in Windom
In a press release by Windom Area Schools, the district said there are clean-up efforts underway throughout the community. Community members have stepped up throughout the last week helping their friends, family, and neighbors with flooding preparation and now clean-up. The district wants to extend gratitude to volunteers who have been aiding the community.

Thursday morning flood update
Windom Mayor Dominic Jones reported that the Des Moines River in Windom is continuing to recede. However, the city is strongly recommending that sandbags be kept in place, as rain can lead to a rise in water levels. Sandbags will be picked up after the river levels fall below “action” stage at 17 feet, which will likely be well after the July 4 holiday.

City warns of possible scammers
City of Windom update: Thursday, June 27, 6:15 p.m. As waters recede, clean-up efforts are actively underway in the community. There are many households who will require assistance from others. Friends, family, and neighbors are often the first to step up and assist in clean-up efforts throughout the community. However, there may be extra help needed for some property owners.
Golf course partially reopens
While a large swath of the course remains underwater, the Windom Country Club has reopened for play with a modified seven-hole layout. Course Superintendent Cody Sebring said that water went over the dikes along Holes 6 and 8. The result left all of Hole 6 underwater, with no access to Hole 7. Large portions of Holes 1, 2, 8 and 9 also are underwater.

She passed from this world on June 15, 2024 and began re-organizing the afterlife, as those of you who knew her will understand. Masaaki Sakamaki, Sleepy Eye’s exchange student from Japan, will leave tomorrow to spend several days in Washington and other cities in the East. Along with other exchange students he will visit places of interest for 10 days and then return to Japan. Masaaki lived with the Jim Young family.
