Midsummer salute
Sleepy Eye’s Avenue of Flags fly Tuesday at Home Cemetery. The memorial goes up with volunteer help on special occasions during the year with flags in honor of 500 deceased veterans. Organizer Suzanne Kral said she decided to bring out the flags this week because they didn’t get up for the Fourth of July due to weather, and to coincide with the Sleepy Eye Baseball Association and American Legion’s Military Appreciation Night on Tuesday at the ballpark. Sleepy Eye FFA competed with 45 teams from Central and Southeastern Minnesota in the 10th annual Hubbards Sunshine swine judging contest at the Hubbards Research Farm near Mankato. Individuals who represented Sleepy Eye were Paul Krienke who placed as second high individual, Pat Krenz, James Paulson, and Gary Peterson. Sleepy Eye tied for first place team with Jackson and Lakefield.

Legion honors 50 year members
The Springfield American Legion Post No. 257 recognized and honored their 50 year members last month. Six local men, Warren Hauger, Grant Lade , Wayne Rice, Bruce Runck, John Ryan and John Zihlke were honored this year for 50 continuous years of membership in Springfield’s American Legion post. UHD marks building completion
FAIRMONT– Several hundred community members showed up to celebrate the grand opening of United Hospital District’s (UHD) Fairmont Clinic on Wednesday evening.
