Underrated Cardinals prospect has been on fire recently in minors

The St. Louis Cardinals have struggled offensively this season. They have a .245 team batting average and are tied for 21st in Major League Baseball in runs scored.

However, they have some promising young bats in their farm system that may soon be ready to get the call to the majors. One of them is infielder Thomas Saggese.

Saggese has been hitting well lately, and Cardinals insider Brandon Kiley believes it's only a matter of time before the team calls him up.

"For all the deserved talk about (Jordan) Walker's last 10 days, Saggese is the right-handed bat I would like to see get the call," Kiley tweeted on Monday.

Saggese has a slash line of .320/.370/.550 dating back to July 1. He also has a .920 OPS, six doubles, a triple, and five home runs.

With Nolan Gorman struggling and the number of left-handed bats St. Louis has on its Major League roster, it might make sense for them to call up Saggese and send Gorman to Triple-A Memphis.

Tommy Pham was brought in via trade to add another right-handed bat to the mix for St. Louis and balance out their left-handed heavy lineup. But the Cardinals may need another right-handed bat soon.

Saggese was acquired last year at the trade deadline from the Texas Rangers in exchange for left-hander Jordan Montgomery and right-hander Chris Stratton. So far, St. Louis appears to be reaping the rewards of last year's trade with Texas.

The 22-year-old is hitting .249 with 13 home runs and 50 RBI on the season in Triple-A. While the average could be better, he could give the Cardinals a little bit of extra power from the right side of the plate.
