Deadwood police prepare for a new surge of fake IDs this summer
DEADWOOD — Four people were arrested on June 19 for presenting a fake ID at the Saloon No. 10 in Deadwood. Deadwood Chief of Police Cory Shafer said that there is usually a rise in fake IDs in Deadwood during the summer and during large events. Shafer said charges of minor in possession or minor in consumption typically accompany a charge of being found in possession of a fake or falsified ID.
Joseph James Mitzel
Joseph James Mitzel, 76 of Spearfish, passed away peacefully on December 27th, 2023. Joseph was born in Minot, ND on July 22nd, 1947 to Joe and Delores Mitzel and spent his early years helping on the family farm near Minot. Joseph spent three wonderful years enrolled in Ann Carlson School in Jamestown. In the 4th and 5th grade Joseph learned to overcome his disabilities and went on the accomplish great things in life! Following this he moved to Esmond where he graduated from high school.

DES MOINES, Iowa — Newell’s LuKayzee Brink and Wessington’s Charleigh Brewer each won their performances Thursday at the National Junior High Finals Rodeo. Brink uncorked a 7.96-second run in the morning session while Brewer ran an 8.64 seconds in the evening session. There are still some goat tying remaining in the second go-round but Brink currently sits atop the goat tying standings with a combined time of 16.32 seconds. Brewer is currently 18th with a two-run time of 20.71 seconds. Entering Friday’s competition, the South Dakota girls are in third place with 1,095.00 points, trailing only Utah (1,995) and Texas (1,995).
