The Hormel Institute hosts research summit with Gustavus Adolphus College

The Hormel Institute, University of Minnesota, partnered with Gustavus Adolphus College to host the joint The Hormel Institute and Gustavus Research Summit on Thursday.

The s ummit’s purpose is to allow faculty to connect on the research being conducted at both institutions, with the hope of identifying potential areas for collaboration that could be beneficial to all involved.

Attendees from both the Institute and Gustavus Adolphus College listened to presentations given by faculty from both institutions and participated in group discussions and networking activities.

“The Hormel Institute offers cutting-edge technologies and other resources—like capabilities to test toxic compounds to aid in research on the effects of pesticides, for example—while Gustavus and The Hormel Institute offer each other opportunities to expand into research areas that perhaps wouldn’t be possible without these partnerships,” said Edward Hinchcliffe, PhD, Professor, The Hormel Institute. “Gustavus is a top undergraduate institution that has put a lot of resources into advancing knowledge that has important applications for human health. Partnering with them really expands our reach at The Hormel Institute, particularly into education, for the benefit of Minnesota and beyond.”

The Research Summit is part of a growing list of collaborations between the two institutions. Gustavus also secured funding to expand The Hormel Institute’s Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) internship program and bring on an additional three Gustavus interns to the 2024 program cycle. Additional plans for further collaboration are being explored.
