Warrant issued for man accused of stealing car in St. Peter

On June 4, the Nicollet County Fifth Judicial District Court issued a warrant for the arrest of a Minneapolis man suspected of stealing a woman’s car from a parking lot in St. Peter.

Zakaria Abdi Hurshe, 31, is charged with two counts of felony theft for the taking of a motor vehicle and multiple financial transaction cards. Hurshe’s whereabouts are currently unknown.

St. Peter Police received a report of the missing vehicle from the owner, who said it was taken from her workplace parking lot between the hours of 6:15 a.m. and 9 a.m. Her purse, containing two credit cards, a debit card, miscellaneous health insurance cards and approximately $20 in currency had also been stolen. Later that day, one of her financial cards was used without her consent in the city of Jordan.

The woman’s purse was later found hanging from the rafters in the stairwell at her workplace, but the card holder was removed. Investigators suspected the thief raided her purse first before stealing her vehicle. On May 22, the Minneapolis Police Department had recovered the stolen vehicle.

The Jordan Police Department then sent out a crime alert on May 23 asking the public for help in identifying the man who was found in a sureveillance photo sing the woman’s financial card. Members of the public identified the suspect as Hurshe. The same man was captured by surveillance footage riding a bike outside the woman’s place of employment at the time of the theft, and his face was compared to multiple jail custody photos of Hurshe.
