Choices for People making Rolla a regional leader for developmental disability services
A Friday ceremony at Rolla Lions Club Park proved graduation season didn’t completely end in May. Gathered were dozens direct service professionals who achieved their Missouri Talent Pathways accreditation with Choices for People. This was the third graduation Choices for People has hosted since last year, and the largest yet. Moreover, additional ceremonies are planned until Choices for People’s entire staff has graduated, including the 30 new planned hires who’ll be joining the organization by the end of next year.
Quilt and birdhouse donations for a worthy cause
Beautiful quilts made by the ladies of Boone Creek Baptist Church and the Friendly Quilters at First Baptist Church in Licking, and some artistically decorated birdhouses will be donated to the annual Ozarks Berry Festival Auction. Face painting, grilled hot dogs, Icees and popcorn were free to customers, and drawings were held for 60 prizes, including $1,000,000 (candy bar, that is)! An Independence Day photo background was also set up in the store. A special treat for all was the artwork by Belfiore, shown in the center of the photo, which was on display throughout the day.

Iberia issues 48-hour boil water advisory after leak
The City of Iberia announced a Precautional Boil Water Advisory. The advisory will be in effect for 48 hours. The city issued the advisory after a water leak that drained the water tower. A post on the city’s Facebook page said the tower had to be refilled Tuesday evening.
Stoutland Man Injured In Laclede County Crash
A Stoutland man receives moderate injuries following a crash in Laclede County. According to the Highway Patrol, 34-year-old Anthony Machabee was traveling southbound on Highway BB seven miles north of Sleeper, when his 2004 Dodge Ram travelled off the right side of the road, returned to the road, then travelled off the right side of the road again and struck several trees.
Boone Creek VBS at Breaker Rock Beach

Attendance between students and around two dozen adults went as high as 150 during the week-long excursion on “Breaker Rock Beach.” Students were challenged to “be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (Romans 12:2). Lessons encouraged them to discover that God’s truth never changes and that everyone needs Jesus. They learned to speak the truth about Jesus in love. Food, friendship and fellowship were enjoyed throughout the week.
Missouri Minute: Kansas City, Rolla miss Tech Hub funding; St. Louis utility rates may rise
Last fall, the federal government designated regions centered around Rolla and Kansas City as among 31 "Tech Hubs” across the country. The hubs then competed for federal funding to complete industry-specific projects. On Tuesday, 12 hubs were announced as recipients of more than $500 million in combined grants, but Rolla and Kansas City were not among them. Rodney B. DeFrance, age 83 of Waynesville, Missouri, passed away in his home Tuesday, July 2, 2024. He is survived by a son Rodney of Minneapolis, Minnesota and a cousin, Charlotte. A Graveside Service will be held Wednesday, July 10 at 1 p.m. at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Waynesville, Missouri.

Annual Meeting of the Members of IECA
The 2024 Annual Meeting of the Membership of Intercounty Electric Cooperative was held Friday, June 28, at the Licking Old City Park. The event began at 8 a.m. with a health fair and/or breakfast, served by the Raymondville Volunteer Fire Department.
