    Marion County deputies investigate after pedestrian dies in crash

    PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) — The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a pedestrian was killed in a crash Sunday morning.

    According to the sheriff’s office, 911 calls came in just before 10 a.m. to report that a pedestrian had been hit by a car on State Street near 47th Avenue Southeast in Salem.

    “Deputies and emergency medical services personnel responded to the scene, lifesaving efforts were attempted at the scene, tragically the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene,” the sheriff’s office said in a release.

    The pedestrian was identified as 61-year-old Salem resident Michael Sissell.

    The driver’s name wasn’t released, but he was described by officials as a 53-year-old man who was driving a silver-four-door BMW that struck the pedestrian while going eastbound.

    The driver is said to have stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

    No arrests or citations have been made.
