Letter: Looking for candidates who will work together for all
I am one of the “moderate voters” that campaigns are so eager to win over and to have us vote for them. On some issues, I lean conservative, and on others, I lean progressive. I study the issues, read up on the candidates, and vote for those who best represent what I want for our cities, states, and for our country.
Opinion: A pivotal moment in American history
On July 4, 1776, the 13 colonies represented by the United States Congress officially adopted the Declaration of Independence. This document is seen as one of the founding documents of our country and the first formal statement declaring a nation’s people to choose their own form of government. As we consider this holiday, I am reminded of each of our unique perspectives of what it means to be American, and also what we can do as individuals to foster opportunity and belonging for others. As the education co-chair of the America250 Utah Commission, I admire this group of revolutionary leaders, ranging in age and backgrounds, who had the audacity to declare: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” These ideas profoundly changed our country and influenced many geopolitical events across the globe in the Revolutionary era. Next July, Utahns will start a yearlong celebration of unity, education and engagement that will culminate on July 4, 2026, to mark the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.
Mayors of Utah Valley: Meaningful traditions bring communities together
There is a great opportunity this month to celebrate the birth of this great nation and honor the rich pioneer history of our great state. Many in American Fork, and from all over Utah County, will also join in celebrating Steel Days, a long-standing tradition that has been happening since 1945. Whether you are new to this area or a longtime resident with family history here, you are welcome and wanted.

“Anastasia: The Musical” — Timpanogos Community Theater and Timpanogos Arts Foundation presents “Anastasia: The Musical” from June 21 to July 6 at Valentine Theater. Follow the footsteps of a young woman seeking her identity and unravel the mystery of a lifetime. Most performances will begin at 7:30 p.m., with an ASL performance on Friday, June 28, and additional 2 p.m. matinees on Saturday, June 22, and Saturday, June 29.
