SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — In the absence of star striker Chicho Arango, fan-favorite Diego Luna will be joining the MLS All-Star squad on Wednesday, July 24.

Luna, 20, will be replacing Arango on the All-Star squad, who was suspended for four games including the All-Star match against the All-Stars from Mexico’s Liga MX. Details on Arango’s suspension were not made immediately clear, with league officials only saying he had violated the league’s anti-harassment policy.

Luna will join RSL defender Justen Glad for the All-Star showcase on Wednesday, July 24 at 6 p.m.

Affectionately known by fans as “Moon Boy” due to his meteoric rise and last name, Diego Luna has had a breakout year with Real Salt Lake. So far in 2024, Luna has recorded five goals with a career-best 12 assists through 22 matches. His call-up to the MLS All-Star showcase is his first and makes him the youngest player on the All-Star roster.

According to Real Salt Lake, Luna and Glad are the first double-showing for Real Salt Lake in the MLS All-Star showcase since 2015, when club-legends Nick Rimando and Tony Beltran were selected.

Luna made the cut to be part of the MLS All-Star roster as a “Coach’s selection.”
