    From popping fireworks to shows, here's everything to know about the Fourth of July in San Angelo this year.

    Fireworks

    Fireworks season got underway Monday in Texas and continues through midnight July 4. The city of San Angelo and the police department want to remind the public about fireworks laws.

    Shooting or possessing fireworks inside or within 5,000 feet of city limits is a class C misdemeanor punishable by a maximum fine of $2,000. To report illegal fireworks, please contact the nonemergency police dispatch number at 325-657-4315.

    "If you’re using small fireworks like sparklers or shooting from outside city limits, our Fire Marshal’s Office has some tips to keep yourself and others safe," a release stated.

    Always:

    • Buy from reliable sellers.
    • Stay away from illegal explosives.
    • Have water on hand.
    • Use outdoors only.
    • Read and follow label directions.
    • Have an adult present.
    • Wear eye protection and never have any part of the body over the firework.

    Never:

    • Relight a “dud” firework. Wait 15-20 minutes then soak in water.
    • Light more than one firework at a time.
    • Throw or point fireworks at others.
    • Carry fireworks in your pocket.
    • Shoot fireworks in metal or glass containers.
    • Make your own fireworks.
    • Give fireworks to children.

    Lake Nasworthy parks

    Day passes to Middle Concho and Spring Creek parks at Lake Nasworthy are available at their respective entry gates for $5 per vehicle. Camping permits cost $10 per day. Entry and camping permits can be purchased at the parks' entrances. Camping permits can also be purchased at Spring Creek Marina in Spring Creek Park.

    Fireworks displays

    A Star-Spangled Banner Concert and Fireworks — July 3

    Location: Bill Aylor Sr. Memorial River Stage, 16 E. Ave. A

    The show will begin at 6:30 p.m. There will be live local entertainment featuring Rita Capuchina, Kevin Collins and an after-party with Take Two, an interactive band that features both current hits and dance classics. The after-party kicks off after the fireworks and ends at 11 p.m.

    Fireworks begin 30 minutes after sunset. On July 3 this year, the official sunset in San Angelo is 8:50 p.m.

    Thirty minutes later is 9:20 p.m., according to the Facebook event.

    Admission to the is free. The gates open at noon for people to claim a spot and bring blankets or lawn chairs. No coolers or alcoholic beverages are allowed.

    There are eight-top VIP tables available that sit immediately in front of the stage. Costs are $62.50 online. Buy tickets online at www.stubwire.com.

    Lake Nasworthy Firework Show — July 4

    Location: Lake Nasworthy — Fireworks launched from the dam across from Goodfellow Recreation Camp.

    Hosted by: Goodfellow Air Force Base in cooperation with Lake Nasworthy Homeowners Association

    The fireworks can be viewed all around the lake and down Knickerbocker Avenue. The show usually begins around sunset at 9 p.m. There is a curated soundtrack to the show on 94.7 KIXY FM. Keep an eye out for updates on the Lake Nasworthy HOA Facebook.

    Events

    Freedom Fest at the Farm, weekend market

    Location: 2505 Martin Luther King Blvd.

    The Chicken Farm Art Center is hosting a weekend market on July 5 and 6. There will be a special Friday night event with music from Moan Cherry from 6-9 p.m. All the studios will be open for shopping. On Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., the art center will host its 1st Saturday Market.

    Pops, Pints and Music

    Location: 19 E. Concho Ave.

    The Martial Pint is hosting an event during the Star Spangled Banner Fireworks show 7 p.m. July 3. There will be live bands before and after the fireworks. Baer Bakery will be serving treats. Space is limited. RSVP for $25, which will go towards your tab. Call 325-227-4251 to RSVP.
