Law enforcement authorities in Texas are searching for two individuals they say are suspected of fatally shot the manager of a Sonic fast-food restaurant following an argument over their order and money. The two people are suspected of killing 33-year-old Daniel Shrewsbury Sunday evening, authorities announced.

The San Antonio Police Department on Monday released three images of the suspects that appear to be taken from security footage inside of the restaurant.

“Help our detectives identify two people suspected of shooting and killing a Sonic employee July 7th, 2024 in the 5500 block of Babcock Rd,” police wrote in a post on the department’s Facebook page. “The suspect and victim were arguing before one of the suspects shot the victim. If you know these suspects call 210-207-4804.”

Police on Tuesday afternoon updated the initial post about the two persons of interest, saying that they had identified both of the individuals wanted for questioning. No additional information was offered.

According to a report from San Antonio ABC affiliate KSAT, the shooting took place at about 9:40 p.m. on Sunday evening. Shrewsbury reportedly got into a verbal argument with one of the persons of interest while they were in the drive-thru or parking lot of the restaurant. The argument escalated and ultimately ended with one of the individuals in the car pulling out a gun and shooting Shrewsbury at least once before fleeing in the vehicle.

The manager was able to make it back inside the restaurant, but was pronounced dead on the scene by emergency medical personnel.

The fatal shooting left locals and regular customers of the fast-food restaurant devastated.

“This is such a tragedy. It’s horrible,” Alicia Kassis, who typically goes to the Sonic location twice a day for soft drinks, told KSAT.

Kassis told the station that in her many visits, she has always had good experiences with the employees, particularly Shrewsbury.

“They’re wonderful,” she said of the staff. “They’re so sweet, and the manager is top drawer.”

A spokesperson for the fast food chain released a statement in an email to KSAT.

“We are aware of the incident that occurred at our franchised location in San Antonio, TX,” the email said. “The franchisee is cooperating fully with the police in their investigation. Given that this is an active investigation, we defer any further comment to the local police department.”
