San Antonio Spurs ranked in NBA’s top five in terms of trade assets

The San Antonio Spurs may well end up making a major trade to accelerate their rebuild ahead of the NBA’s 2025 trade deadline this coming February in light of star French forward Victor Wembanyama ‘s rapid development. And if they do, they will be poised to deploy a formidable war chest of assets to get that deal done.

So formidable, in fact, that Bleacher Report NBA analyst Andy Bailey has ranked the Spurs’ collection of tradeable assets as the fourth-best such collection in all of the league. Just ahead of the Detroit Pistons and just behind the Houston Rockets, it is hard to argue with Bailey’s logic.

With players like Devin Vassell, Keldon Johnson, and Chris Paul they could use in a deal along with draft assets like picks from the Atlanta Hawks and most of their own picks, San Antonio could tender a hefty offer for a player.

“The Spurs could also take one more year collecting losses and ping pong balls in the lottery,” the B/R expert reminds us as well.

“If Chris Paul is playing well, but San Antonio is still hovering outside the play-in range come February, a contender might be willing to spend some draft capital to add him.”

It really will be interesting to see how this coming season plays out for San Antonio in terms of trades.
