San Antonio man taking trash to dumpster with gun slips, shoots and kills himself accidentally

A San Antonio man accidentally killed himself as he went to take out the trash one day, slipping and setting off the gun he had been carrying, which shot him, the police revealed.

It was about 6 a.m. on Aug. 6 when the man, who has not been identified but who was allegedly in his 50s or 60s, took a walk to a dumpster near his home, carrying both the trash and a gun.

On the way, the San Antonio police told KSAT that he slipped in a wet area, causing his gun to go off. It shot him in the chest. The man kept walking, it was reported, and was later found near the hill next to the dumpster.

The authorities arrived minutes later, presumably having been called by a neighbor or someone else who heard the gunfire or saw what happened. It wasn't exactly clear how the incident played out, including why the man kept walking up the hill toward the dumpsters.

They took the man to the hospital, where he later died. The San Antonio Police Department told KSAT that investigators found the gun near the trash bags the man had been carrying.

The incident occurred on the 12400 block of Starcrest Drive, which is near the Blossoms Park neighborhood of the city in the north about 13 miles from the city's center.

The police are continuing to investigate the incident. It was reported that the police department, fire department and EMS all arrived at the scene shortly after the incident.

It comes just days after a Michigan toddler shot himself with his babysitter's gun in a harrowing incident. It was approximately 6 p.m. on Saturday when the Detroit police were called to a residence in the 11000 block of Edgemont Street.

The investigation revealed that the babysitter, 42, had unsecured guns at the home, and the toddler had grabbed one and started playing with it, shooting himself in the process. He was rushed to the hospital and was described as critical but nevertheless in stable condition.
