Authorities responding to a predawn death report in Clairemont Tuesday found the partially decomposed body of an unidentified woman, prompting a homicide investigation.

Patrol officers made the grim discovery at about 5 a.m. in the 4000 block of Mount Albertine Avenue, just south of Balboa Avenue and west of Interstate 805, according to the San Diego Police Department.

How the “obviously deceased” woman — believed to have been in her 20s or early 30s — died was not immediately apparent, SDPD Lt. Steve Shebloski said.

“Her injuries were undetermined due to the level of decomposition and the positioning of her body,” the lieutenant said. “However, due to the unusual circumstances surrounding (her) death … homicide detectives were called to the scene to investigate.”

It was also unclear if the woman lived at the home or if she may have been a visitor there, according to police.

Investigators detained two men who were present at the home when officers arrived and were “evaluating their roles in this incident,” Shebloski said.

“At this time, detectives are still in the process of examining physical evidence from the scene, attempting to locate and interview witnesses and canvassing the area for surveillance footage that might provide more insight into the events leading up to the … death,” Shebloski said Tuesday afternoon.
