Klay Thompson Reportedly Makes Decision on Warriors Future, NBA Free Agency

Klay Thompson's time as a member of the Golden State Warriors appears to be coming to an end.

On Saturday, one day before NBA teams are permitted to begin negotiating with free agents, The Athletic's Shams Charania reported that Thompson and the Warriors are "braced for the end of an era."

A pending free agent, Thompson is not expected to return to Golden State for the 2024-25 NBA season.

"BREAKING: The Golden State Warriors are preparing to lose four-time NBA champion Klay Thompson in free agency, an expected parting of ways between a legendary dynasty and a legacy player, league sources say," Charania posted on X.

Thompson, 34, was the No. 11 overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft.

He spent each of the first 11 seasons of his career with the Warriors and missed two other full seasons because of injury.

One of the best two-way wings in the NBA during his prime, Thompson played relentless defense and tormented opposing teams with his spot-up shooting during Golden State's mid-2010s dynasty.

In league history, he ranks sixth overall in 3-pointers made (2,481) and 20th in 3-point percentage (.412). In postseason play, his 501 made threes are second behind only Warriors guard Stephen Curry (618).

According to Charania, Thompson is still expected to draw interest as a free agent. The Lakers, Clippers and Mavericks are considered to be " strong suitors ."
