49ers Star Fred Warner Earns Massive Ranking For 2024

San Francisco 49ers star Fred Warner is unquestionably one of the top defenders in the NFL, but is he the very best at his position?

Jordan Dajani of CBS Sports thinks so.

Dajani has ranked Warner as the No. 1 linebacker in football heading into 2024, noting that Warner has “proven to be a playmaker at virtually every level of the field.”

Warner is coming off of a brilliant 2023 campaign in which he played every game and racked up 132 tackles, 2.5 sacks, four interceptions, four forced fumbles and 11 passes defended en route to his third Pro Bowl appearance and third First-Team All-Pro selection.

Dajani notes that Warner became the first player in two-and-a-half decades to log 125 tackles, four picks and four forced fumbles in a season.

Warner, who played his collegiate football at BYU, was selected by the 49ers in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

It didn’t take the 27-year-old long to establish his name among the elite linebackers in the league, as he rattled off 124 tackles as soon as his rookie year.

Warner has posted well over 100 tackles in each of his six NFL seasons, with 118 being his low point in 2019. He has recorded over 130 stops each of the last three years.

Can the 49ers finally get over the hump?

San Francisco has made the Super Bowl twice in the last five years, but both times, the Niners fell to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Last winter, the 49ers lost to the Chiefs in an overtime heartbreaker.

The good news is that San Francisco may very well have the most talented roster in the NFL and certainly seems to stand a great chance of making another trip to the Super Bowl.

The bad news is that hangovers are a thing, and you have to wonder if the Niners’ will has been somewhat compromised after such a gut-wrenching defeat this past February.

Not only that, but the NFC has improved, which will make the 49ers’ path to the Super Bowl that much more complicated this coming season.

On even more of an ominous note, San Francisco may not be able to keep this group together much longer. Brandon Aiyuk is seeking a contract extension, and Brock Purdy is due to for a new deal next offseason. The Niners have already made Nick Bosa the highest-paid defensive player in football, and they also have significant financial obligations to other players on the roster.

This may very well be the last hurrah for Fred Warner and this current iteration of the 49ers.
