49ers Coach Makes His Feelings Clear On Brock Purdy's Training Camp Problem

The San Francisco 49ers have major Super Bowl aspirations in 2024 after losing in the big game last season to the Kansas City Chiefs. A lot of that pressure falls on the shoulders of quarterback Brock Purdy, who will be looking to take his team all the way.

However, a topic of discussion at training camp this summer has been Purdy's interceptions. He continues to make throws in riskier situations when it doesn't necessarily count. While Niners fans may be worried about seeing those mistakes, head coach Kyle Shanahan explained why he's not losing sleep over it.

“I know, always, stats are made a big deal in practice and I know that’ll stick out, too,” Shanahan said, via 49ersWebZone. “And we never want a lot of picks in practice, regardless of who it is, but Brock’s never really had an interception problem. He’s protected the ball pretty well in this league for his two years. He also isn’t scared to let it rip, too."

Kyle Shanahan makes a good point. Brock Purdy has taken fantastic care of the football during his time in the NFL, throwing a mere 11 interceptions last year against 31 touchdowns. He also completed 69.4% of his passes.

Overall, the youngster has only been picked off 16 times in 27 regular season starts. The reality is it's only August. There's really no need to worry about Purdy's interceptions in camp. He'll be ready to roll come Week 1.
