Shooting near homeless encampment in Downey leaves 3 dead
A shooting near a homeless encampment in Downey left three men dead Saturday, police said.Officers responded to the west side of the Rio San Gabriel riverbed and the 105 freeway around 8:50 p.m. after receiving reports of shots fired in the area.When they arrived, they found three men suffering from gunshot wounds. All three men died at the scene.It's unclear what sparked the shooting but police said it "appeared to be an isolated incident."As of Sunday afternoon, no arrests have been made and information on a suspect(s) has not been released.Anyone with information is urged to contact Downey Det. No injuries reported after train derails in Carson
No injuries have been reported after a Union Pacific train derailed in Carson on Sunday. It's unclear what exactly caused the train to go off the tracks near the 22400 block of Alameda Street, but Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department investigators say that there was some property damage that occurred as a result of the incident. Deputies also noted that Union Pacific Police will be handling the investigation. No further information was provided.SkyCal flew over the spot of the derailment, where several cars of the train could be seen turned on their side. This is a developing story. 2 sheriff's deputies injured after chase from Compton to Long Beach ends in crash
Two sheriff's deputies were injured, and at least one of them was taken to the hospital, after a chase came to a crashing end in Long Beach overnight.The pursuit involved a suspect wanted for assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. It started around 4 a.m. in Compton and made its way over to Long Beach, where the suspect vehicle crashed on Atlantic Boulevard, north of the 91 Freeway.One of the pursuing sheriff's vehicles crashed into an island and a tree shortly after that.Two deputies were hurt and one was taken to the hospital. The extent of their injuries was not known.Up to four suspects were taken into custody in connection with the chase. It's unclear if any of them were injured.
MLK Jr. hospital secures $25 million in state funding to stay open for remainder of year
