A Positive Change: LA homeless count shows first decline in 6 years
For the first time in six years, Los Angeles has seen a decline in homelessness, signaling validation of focused and coordinated efforts to address the crisis. On June 28, the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority released the results of the 2024 Point-in-Time Count, an annual census of unhoused people. Overall homelessness is down and there was a significant drop in the number of people living on the streets.

City council voted to move forward with the Los Angeles Convention Center (LACC) Expansion and Modernization Project. This city initiative will grow the LACC for future residents and visitors. Los Angeles City Planning (LACP) and Black Planners of LA (BPLA) received the American Planning Association Awards of Excellence. LACP received this for its work in public outreach and the Citywide Housing Incentive Program (CHIP). They received another award for comprehensive planning with their Downtown Community Plan. Newsom signs law requiring California high-schoolers to take financial literacy class
High school students in California soon will have another graduation requirement to get a diploma: financial literacy. California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed AB 2927, which requires a semester-long personal finance education course to graduate. The proposed new law requires schools to offer the course by the 2027-28 school year and make it a graduation requirement by 2030-31.

LOS ANGELES, CA.- Marian Goodman Gallery Los Angeles announced the first solo exhibition of Korean-German artist Jongsuk Yoon in the United States. Born in South Korea in 1965, Yoon relocated to Europe in the early 1990s to study art at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf under German conceptual artist Fritz Schwegler. After her studies, she settled in Düsseldorf and focused her practice on drawings and paintings that hover in the space between figuration and abstraction. In works on paper, canvas, as well as directly on walls, Yoon creates charged and dreamlike color field landscapes that reflect her interests in both European and American Modernism and East Asian traditions.
