Macklin Celebrini was the talk of the town during the first day of the San Jose Sharks development camp, and other Sharks prospects praised the No. 1 pick.

Celebrini was in the second group of development camp and was often paired with Kasper Halttunen in drills. Halttunen got one of the best looks at the center compared to other prospects.

"He's an unbelievable player. I hope we're going to play together a lot. He's a great player. I really enjoyed that," Halttunen said. "It's just one practice, but hopefully, in the future, we'll get along pretty well."

Luca Cagnoni was a 2023 fourth-round pick for the Sharks. While working with the other defenseman at the start of the group, he went against Celebrini during later drills involving everyone on the ice.

Cagnoni mentioned that despite the hype around 2023 No. 4 overall pick Will Smith last season, the energy around the rink was even higher because of Celebrini.

"We had Smitty last year, so I am kind of used to the cameras and stuff around now," Cagnoni said. "It is definitely a little louder in the rink. Having a generational guy like that, it's going to be a little louder."

Filip Bystedt is participating in his third development camp with the Sharks since he was drafted in 2022. Bystedt told reporters that today's crowd was the biggest he'd seen for this event.

"Yeah, a bit different. I think the crowd for practice this year is the most there has ever been in my years. It's fun," Bystedt said. "Mac's been coming here and seeing him on the ice and how skilled he is."

Bystedt told reporters that he has only had a few conversations with Celebrini, but he did poke fun at their time as opponents during the 2024 World Juniors.

"We said hey to each other. We faced each other at the World Juniors and had a little laugh about that," Bystedt said.

Sweden beat Canada 2-0 in their group-stage match. Bystedt did not factor into any of Sweden's scoring.

It will be interesting to see who Celebrini plays with on a line at Thursday's prospect scrimmage. Halttunen might have the lead look with him on the wing, but teams and lineups won't be out until the game begins.
