Quentin Musty Moves Summer Training To Toronto; Wants To Crack Sharks Opening Night Roster

San Jose Sharks prospect Quentin Musty told reporters he moved his offseason training program to Toronto to prepare him for training camp better.

The Buffalo, New York native moved to Toronto to train with Andy O'Brien's group.

"I made a bit of a move this summer, being from Buffalo, but [I] moved up to Toronto to train with Andy O'Brien's group," Musty said, "[I'm] just trying to get bigger, stronger and faster and get ready for the NHL. It's a big summer for me, and [I'm] hoping to capitalize on it."

Musty had a goal and an assist in the Sharks prospect scrimmage and showed great chemistry with Will Smith.

O'Brien works for Quartexx Management group and is the trainer Pittsburgh Penguins legend Sidney Crosby works during the offseason. Crosby has skated with 2024 Hart Trophy Winner Nathan MacKinnon during the offseason.

Musty told reporters that he is not directly training with the group of NHL players.

"There's a lot [of players]. I train with mostly Junior guys now. There are a lot of big-name guys for next year's draft," Musty said. "Porter Martone. I train with him."

Martone played for the Mississauga Steelheads and had 71 points (33 goals, 38 assists) in 60 games.

"We sometimes work out with the NHL guys, so it's fun to see what they're doing and learn from them," Musty said. "It's been big for me this summer. We've already made a couple of big jumps."

Musty wants to make the NHL as fast as possible, just as any prospect would. However, at 19, Musty isn't eligible for the AHL next season. He must make the NHL roster right out of training camp, or he will be sent back to the OHL to play a third season for the Sudbury Wolves.

Musty said that growing up in Buffalo, he and his family had season tickets to Sabres games, and while getting coached by Patrick Marleau and Joe Thronton is valuable, seeing Ryan Miller on the ice was surreal.

"Any coach you're out there with, you want to listen, [and] those guys make it a lot easier to take information. They went through it, and they are two of the greatest players to know play here and even to the NHL," Musty said about Marleau and Thornton. "[I'm] kind of still in awe, especially being from Buffalo and seeing Ryan Miller. It's big, and you can learn from anyone on that ice at any given moment."

Musty's offseason training will be essential, and he must have a fantastic performance at training camp to crack the roster, which includes an already crowded forward group.
