Woman killed by van while riding bicycle in San Jose

( KRON ) — A woman was killed after a van collided with her while she was riding her bicycle in San Jose on Thursday, police said.

The San Jose Police Department said the crash occurred at about 6:30 p.m. in the area of Tully Road and La Ragione Avenue.

Police said two cyclists, a man and a woman, were crossing a sidewalk on Tully Road. At the same time, a 2018 white Ford van, driven by a man, was traveling westbound on the second lane of Tully Road.

As the van was traveling westbound, the driver “swerved to avoid colliding with one of the bicyclists when it struck the adult female bicyclist,” SJPD said.

The woman was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, where police said she was later pronounced deceased.

San Jose police said the van driver remained at the scene and was cooperative with the investigation. SJPD did not release the bicyclist’s identity.

This is the 25th fatal collision and traffic death in San Jose this year.
