Former San Jose Sharks and current Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane will reportedly start the 24-25 season on LTIR with an injury.

According to Oilers radio broadcaster Bob Stauffer, Kane will not be ready for the start of the regular season.

Last season, Kane scored 24 goals and 20 assists while apparently playing through a hernia. He often missed practice and the occasional game during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

It is unknown if this injury is related to the sports hernia.

Kane played 20 games in the postseason, missing five games. He scored four goals and four assists and was minus seven in the postseason.

Kane fully admitted to the injury before the postseason, as he missed the last three games of the Oilers' regular season.

With the winger expected to need surgery, the Oilers cap space will gain $5.25 million for as long as he is on LTIR. According to PuckPedia, the Oilers are projected to be $354,167 over the $88 million salary cap.

Kane's time with the San Jose Sharks was nothing short of controversial. His time in San Jose ended with a COVID-19 vaccination protocol breach, and his contract was terminated in January 2022. He was suspended for 21 games for his violation.

Kane has continued to be a polarizing player in the Edmonton market after what looked like an ineffective postseason, likely due to his injury.
