Drug Church – “Demolition Man”
Drug Church got started in Albany more than a decade ago, and they’ve perfected a form of hooky, aggressive, big-guitar quasi-hardcore that very few bands can hope to touch. Two years ago, the band released Hygiene, which is their most acclaimed album to date and which fucking rules. Since then, Drug Church have toured hard, played tons of festivals, covered the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, and released the one-off banger “Myopic.” This fall, they’ll release their new album Prude. This is very good news.
REVIEW: Herb Alpert provides the calm after the storm at The Egg in Albany
In a world that functions — and at times dysfunctions — on a see-saw of conflict vs. resolution, much of our music reflects that process. Trumpet player Herb Alpert is all about that resolution, but without the conflict. His show to a sold-out audience at The Egg in Albany on Tuesday was “nice.” And I don’t mean that in a deprecating way.

The exhibition takes visitors on an otherworldly journey, contemplating the dissolution of the body and the material world, not as a loss, but as a moment of radical potential.

Since moving to the Capital Region five years ago, Kansas native Steve Hammond has made a mark on the area music scene in several local bands. His twangy old-school country outfit The AMs play honky-tonk in the vein of Buck Owens, and they recently opened for the legendary Hank Williams’ great-grandson Coleman Williams at the Hangar on the Hudson in Troy.

ALBANY — On Friday, the Capital Region’s Sydney Worthley will be celebrating the release of her latest record, “It Was Nice While it Lasted,” with a themed event at The Hollow. Performing alongside her band, Worthley is set to make the night special for those in attendance by leaning into the 1980s both in sound and aesthetic. This 12-track collection of songs — Worthley’s second full-length effort, and third project overall — is rife with nostalgic synths, and crystal clear production values of yesteryear’s pop stars. This is sure to make for an entertaining night out that’s not to be missed.
