A northeast Santa Rosa salon is closed temporarily after a fire Wednesday morning caused $200,000 in damage to the building, fire officials said.

Magnolia Salon was filled with smoke when Santa Rosa firefighters arrived just after 8:10 a.m. to the 2700 block of Fourth Street, Battalion Chief Jason Jenkins said in a news release.

Crews found the fire near a salon workstation on the first floor of the two-story building using thermal cameras and contained the flames in about 20 minutes.

Firefighters used large pressure fans to clear the smoke from the salon and a neighboring bank in about an hour.

Magnolia Salon had “extensive” damage and will be closed until repairs are made, Jenkins said. The second floor above the salon, which is occupied by Safeway grocery store management, saw some damage but remained open.

Santa Rosa fire investigators are looking into the cause of the fire, which they said appeared to be electrical.

Magnolia Salon owners did not immediately respond to a request to comment from The Press Democrat.
