    Hunter education course offered in Hayward

    A Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Hunter Education course will be offered in early April in Hayward in conjunction with Sawyer County Outdoor Projects and Education (SCOPE).

    The classes will be held from 5:30-8:30 p.m. on April 2, 4, and 9 at Hayward Middle School . The April 6 session will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Hayward Rod & Gun Club on County Road B.

    There is no age limit to enroll in the course. However, the curriculum is geared toward the ability level of a 12 year old. Registration will close at noon on March 31. The course will cover hunter education, understanding firearms, proper care and storage of firearms, marksmanship fundamentals, responsibilities of hunters, field care, handling outdoor emergencies, and more. Anyone born on or after Jan. 1, 1973, must have completed a hunter education course to purchase any hunting license. Persons successfully completing this course will receive a Wisconsin Hunter Education Graduate Certificate. Participants must attend all class sessions, pass a written test and hands-on test to successfully complete the course. The cost is $10, which includes all materials and bonus items. Upon completion, students will receive a hunting vest compliments of SCOPE, a distinctive embroidered emblem and a hunter education certificate.
