Baseball: Scotch Plains-Fanwood 13U Team Wins 2024 New Providence Green League Championship

SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- The Scotch Plains-Fanwood 13U baseball team won the New Providence Green League championship with an 11-1 win over Somerset Hills in the championship game July 22, capping an undefeated summer season.

Starting pitcher Ian Weisholtz went 3 2/3 innings in the final game, surrendering one run on two hits before Lucas Bolton closed the door with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Offensively, the Raiders were paced by Bolton who had two hits, while Will Frey had a double and drove in two runs. Cole Webster also had a double and scored two runs, while Marco Barretta also had two hits. Lucas Blake and Ryan Roof also contributed with a hit each.

Scotch Plains-Fanwood jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning before Somerset Hills closed the gap to 3-1 in the third. The Raiders then put up six runs in the bottom half of the fourth before tacking on two more in the bottom of the fifth to put the game out of reach. The Raiders finished their summer campaign with an 11-0 record, in which they outscored their opponents 129-26.
