NBA player Cameron Payne was arrested two weeks ago for refusing to identify himself and giving a false name during an incident, TMZ Sports reported Tuesday.

Around 2:44 a.m. on June 14, Payne called the police in Scottsdale, Arizona, after a heated argument with his girlfriend. When police arrived, however, the couple said they resolved the verbal dispute and no longer needed the police.

According to the incident report from the Scottsdale Police Department, police asked for Payne’s name and date of birth to finish up their investigation. For “minutes,” police said, Payne refused to identify himself before ultimately claiming his name was “Terry Johnson.”

When police told him they thought he was lying, they also informed him that he could be arrested for providing a false identity. He simply said, “That’s fine.”

After going back and forth with Payne, police ultimately wrote in their report that he did not provide his real name. Then, Payne told them, “No, that’s my fake name. Can you please leave?” He then added, “If you want to arrest me for giving you a fake name, congratulations.”

Payne was then arrested and taken into custody. He was charged with one count of refusal to provide a truthful name and one count of false report to law enforcement. He was released shortly after.
