Clever Ramen , the fast-casual sister restaurant to Clever Koi in Phoenix and Gilbert, Across the Pond and Fellow Osteria — all by Joshua James and Nicholas Campisano of Born and Raised Hospitality — has closed after three years.

Located at SkySong, an Arizona State University innovation park at the corner of Scottsdale and McDowell roads in Scottsdale, Clever Ramen catered to young professionals with fast service in a stylish setting. The Republic's former dining critic called it the "Chipotle of ramen" because of its extensive meal customization options. The team announced the closure in a July 1 Instagram post : "After three years of delicious ramen, pillowy buns and loaded fries with all of you, we've made the tough decision to close. We are deeply grateful for every single one of you who walked through our doors, shared a bowl of love and created unforgettable memories with us."

The unexpected closure took fans by surprise. Some commented that they would have liked to visit one last time.

The team invited patrons to visit one of their other businesses in Phoenix, Scottsdale or Gilbert.

Metro Phoenix said goodbye: to nearly a dozen restaurants in June — one after 44 years
