SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Three suspects have been detained after a series of suspicious bank transactions were reported in the Scranton area Friday afternoon.

In a release, Scranton Police say just before 3:00 p.m. they responded to the report of a suspicious person trying to conduct a transaction inside the Community Bank on the 500 block of Davis Street.

People inside the bank became suspicious after the male was unable to answer questions related to the account information, police noted.

Other Community Banks in Scranton then communicated that they had reports of similar transactions, as stated in the release.

Officials say witnesses outside the bank noticed a car with New Jersey plates acting suspiciously outside the bank.

Police said the male then entered the vehicle and drove off with multiple occupants inside, but police quickly identified the vehicle and stopped it. The vehicle then fled while the officer was speaking with one of the occupants into Moosic, as noted in the release.

The release states that occupants inside the vehicle then fled on foot in the wooded area of Montage Mountain Road and Interstate 81.

Authorities say after a brief pursuit on foot, all three suspects were detained with assistance from the Moosic and Taylor Police Departments along with Pennsylvania State Police.

All suspects are currently in custody as the Scranton Police Department continues to investigate the incident
