Editor's note: Stan Fischler is the Gordie Howe of hockey media.

With the same amazing longevity, Stan's version of the Howe Hat Trick is scoring more than 100 hockey books, assisting countless journalists get their start, and throwing a sharp elbow when necessary in thousands of entertaining, insightful columns and broadcasts.

"The Maven," still sharing wisdom for THN here, is a legend I'm honored to call a friend.

In NHL cities like Seattle with coaching vacancies, many were hoping the Carolina Hurricanes' Rod Brind'Amour would hit the open market.

He didn't; Brind'Amour signed a new multi-year contract with Carolina right after the 'Canes were eliminated from the Stanley Cup playoffs by the New York Rangers.

Our Stanley, Fischler, believes the Carolina coach made an egregious error in the Game 6 loss to the Blueshirts which ended the 'Canes season. For that reason and others, he doesn't share the belief that Brind'Amour would have been the best choice for Seattle.

He explains in today's Kraken Reaction.
