Though hard to believe, the summer solstice is today! Mark the (hopefully sunny) occasion with a weekend agenda of community events and entertainment to fill a languid summer day, from contemporary classic films to Seattle's Solstice Parade.

    Thursday

🎫 Nostalgic for early 2010s indie rock about mansard roofs and gold in the air of summer? Pick your poison: Vampire Weekend plays Climate Pledge Arena at 7pm (tickets from $26), and Iron & Wine has a show at the Paramount (7:30pm, tickets from $35).

    Friday

🌈 Delight in all that Blanche, Rose, Dorothy and Sophia have given us as local author Matt Baume discusses "The Enduring Queer Joy of 'The Golden Girls'" at 7pm at Elliott Bay Book Company.

    Saturday

🎉 Head over to the Rainier Beach Community Center for Atlantic Street Center's Juneteenth Celebration , with a resource fair, food and activities for kids and families. 11am–3pm.

☀️ The Fremont Fair kicks off with music, a craft fair, food and drink and the annual Solstice Parade stepping off at 1pm. Fair continues Sunday (when there is a Dog Parade!).

    Sunday

🍿 In the June film series "Everyone Is Guilty: Patricia Highsmith Adaptations," the Beacon is showcasing the best films based on the queen of intrigue's masterpieces.

    • Anthony Minghella's near-perfect "The Talented Mr. Ripley," starring Jude Law, Matt Damon, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Cate Blanchett, plays at 2pm. Tickets are $12.50.
