The Seahawks remain winless against Matt Stafford’s Rams

The Los Angeles Rams have long been a thorn in the side of the Seattle Seahawks, and especially under head coach Sean McVay. Unfortunately, the Rams have unlocked a special level of difficulty thanks to the addition of quarterback Matthew Stafford.

Stafford was acquired prior to the 2021 season to help get the Rams over the hump. The gamble paid off as Los Angeles claimed a Lombardi in Stafford’s first season with the team. Since then, the Rams have not lived up to their championship season. In 2022, widespread injuries to the Rams stars (including Stafford) saw the team fall apart to 5-12, the worst season for a defending Super Bowl champion.

In 2023, Los Angeles actually did much better than folks expected as they bounced back to 10-7, although they lost their first playoff game.

Still, despite all the ups and downs Los Angeles has had the last two years, one thing remains consistent: Stafford’s Rams still own the Seahawks.

They are Seattle’s kryptonite, there’s no way around it. Ever since Stafford joined the team, he is now 4-0 against the Seahawks. The only times Seattle has bested the Rams was in 2022 when Stafford didn’t play in either game, and even then it took game winning drives to eek out a pair of wins.

All four meetings with Stafford’s Rams have gone as such:

    • 26-17
    • 20-10
    • 30-13
    • 17-16

The last game is particularly painful. The Seahawks squandered a 16-7 lead and missed the game winning field goal as time expired.

Here’s hoping Mike Macdonald and his defensive system have the lead required to shield Seattle from Los Angeles’ kryptonite. There are very few paths to the playoffs for Seattle if they once again get swept by the Rams and 49ers in 2024.
