DK Metcalf launches helmet at teammate as fight breaks out in Seahawks camp

Seattle Seahawks star DK Metcalf swung a helmet at cornerback Tre Brown after a fight broke out during practice on Wednesday.

The tense session even saw scuffling continue despite the fact that new Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald had addressed the team. The session started off with Brown and wide receiver Jake Bobo going at it after a play during an 11 vs. 11 session.

The pair exchanged blows, with Brown landing a shot after Bobo's helmet came off. A little while later, tight end Pharaoh Brown and linebacker Tyrel Dodson tussled. The offensive star didn't take too kindly to Dodson's hit on Ken Walker III as the running back was crossing the goal line.

It was after that when Metcalf and his cornerback foe had an exchange. Teammates tried to separate them, before Metcalf grabbed Brown's helmet and took a swing, resulting in safety K'Von Wallace taking the hit.

Wide receiver Dee Eskridge and cornerback Carlton Johnson didn't take Macdonald's mid-session intervention onboard as they went at it, later followed by edge rusher Derick Hall being left infuriated by a late shove from guard Christian Haynes. A brawl erupted between the defensive and offensive lines, leading to both players being ejected from practice.

"We're right on the line right now, and I think the guys realize that," the head coach said, addressing the in-fighting. "'Hey, let's take care of one another.'

"Definitely don't want people fighting out here and stuff, especially against our own teammates. DK gave a great message at the end of practice, just kind of putting everything into perspective. The guys finished out the right way. Proud of our guys."

Fights during preseason NFL practise aren't uncommon. New York Giants rookie sensation Malik Nabers got into his fair share of scuffles during a joint session with the Detroit Lions. "Someone comes up running to me, says a few words, the rest is that," Nabers said.

"It was a heated practice," Nabers said. "Words are being said and stuff like that is going to happen. [We] talked about cleaning a few things up that led to some of those things," Brian Daboll added before a second day of fights erupted. "We'll try to do a better job [Tuesday], but both sides were competitive, got a lot out of it."

A similar incident also took place at an Appalachian State football practice ahead of the 2024 college football season. The football team hasn't confirmed the names of those involved - but a helmet was swiftly ripped off from a teammate and whacked across his head in shocking scenes.
