Oil City Stadium, built on land donated by Standard Oil Refinery, celebrates Whiting's history as a refinery town for the past 120 years. It was built on the site of a former water filtration plant and Little League fields. Completed in 2011, the $8.5 million structure is home to the Northwest Indiana Oilmen (Midwest Collegiate League, now known as the Northern League), Whiting Oilers and Calumet College baseball teams. The stadium holds 1,100 fans.
Allegheny Gnar prepares second race
Allegheny Gnar is hosting the second race in the USA Cycling Downhill State Championship Series in President from today through Sunday. The event features three new downhill trails and invites public attendance. The series aims to raise funds for trail development and mountain bike racing in the region. Allegheny Gnar, founded in 2023 by Jim Cole and Russell Lineman, works with private landowners to build or maintain trails. Shuttled open riding will occur on Friday and Saturday, with the race on Sunday. Proceeds from sponsorships and registration fees fund cash prizes and trail work in Oil City and President.

CLARION, Pa. — The College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) named their individual 2023-24 Scholar All-Americans on Wednesday. Six members of the Golden Eagles men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams – David Bocci, Luna Castellanos, Alexa Gonczi Colleen Hudson, Joslyn Jurski and Katie Madigan – earned the prestigious academic honors.
