The Children’s Museum of Rock County’s organizers say there’s a strategy in naming a construction firm before they have all the cash in hand for the $10 million project. On Wednesday afternoon, president of the planned nonprofit children’s museum’s board of directors John Westphal stood next to Jeannie Cullen-Schultz, operator of local contractor JP Cullen, under the massive, arched ceiling at the former First National Bank building at 100 W. Hunter Education Classes: Nearly full
Editor’s note: Deputy Lund of the Rock County Sheriff’s Dept. told the Banner that as of Thursday morning, 8/22, only a few spaces remain. The department has previously told the Banner that Rock County residency is not required in order to participate in their classes. Although the registration form only references the September classes, all three classes must be attended. In order to register the student must have a WI DNR customer ID number, which may be obtained by calling 888-936-7463 between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. daily. The number may also be obtained here.

Schools in Illinois’ 34th District receive $13M to address challenges
ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - Several area schools facing financial challenges receive a grant from a revamped evidence-based program. The funding comes from the overhauled 2017 Illinois Senate Democrat-backed evidence-based funding formula. The formula focuses on making school funding impartial by accounting for a district’s total enrollment, poverty rate and number of special education or English language learners.
Speed restrictions lifted along Rock River through Rock County
Boating traffic and water sports return to Rock River after a long summer of high water. The Rock County Sheriff’s Office officially lifted the slow/no-wake order on Rock County’s run of river from Lake Koshkonong south to Beloit on Saturday. It’s the first time this summer the river through the county is fully open to boat traffic.

ADRC of Walworth Co. Dementia Awareness Spotlight: Frontotemporal Dementia and Family Support
On Friday, September 13, 2024, the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) of Walworth County will host a free educational presentation on frontotemporal dementia, also called FTD, and family support. Speakers from the Association of FTD and Lorenzo’s House, a non-profit organization focused on supporting families with younger-onset dementia, will provide the presentation.
