SHELBURN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A two vehicle crash caused traffic to be restricted on U.S. 41 southbound as crews worked to clear the wreckage.

According to Sullivan County Sheriff Jason Bobbitt, the crash occurred along U.S. 41 near Shelburn at the railroad crossing during the 3 p.m. hour.

Bobbitt said investigating deputies found that a vehicle had slowed to cross the railroad crossing and was rear ended by the other vehicle. The impact left one vehicle in a grassy area to the west of the roadway and another in the median.

WTWO crews on scene spotted Thunderbird Fire Department, Shelburn Police, and the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office on scene.

Crews had traffic reduced to a single lane on U.S. 41 southbound as they cleared the scene. As of 4 p.m. Bobbitt said the roadway had reopened.
