Provincial Pub Fundraising Night raises more than $1,200

COLUMBIANA – A little rain did not stop community patrons from coming out to support Provincial Pub’s Fundraising Night, whose proceeds benefited the Clint Mooney Scholarship Foundation, Bikes 4 Kids and local Bailey Lewis, who is battling cancer.

The fundraiser took place on Saturday, May 18 at the Provincial Pub in Columbiana and raised more than $1,200 and featured food from The Local and Tin Top Bar-B-Que 2.

“Every year, the pub does a fundraiser for something in the community—somebody that’s in need,” attendee Susie Lawley said.

During the Provincial Pub’s Fundraising Night, funds from the cover charge went toward supporting the Clint Mooney Scholarship Foundation and Bikes 4 Kids. In addition to assisting the nonprofits, bracelets were sold during the event to help raise funds for Lewis, who is a 26 year old mother battling cancer.

Lawley said it’s the greatest joy she’s ever known to see the Provincial Pub assist an underserved part of the community.

“It’s wonderful,” she said. “I wish everybody had that same attitude, and then we wouldn’t have poverty anymore.”

The Clint Mooney Scholarship Foundation was started by Kelly Davis to raise suicide awareness after the death of her son on May 7, 2017.

“We formed this foundation in order to raise awareness—suicide awareness—and to keep Clint’s memory alive,” Davis said.

The foundation gives two scholarships a year—one for a Shelby County High School graduate going to Auburn and another for a Thompson High School senior going to Auburn.

“We just had our seven-year anniversary of Clint’s death a week ago, so (this fundraiser) is very special,” Davis said. “Sean and the pub—they’re just wonderful people. It’s hard to talk about sometimes, but I have wonderful memories and (events like these) keep those memories alive.”

Funds from the cover charge also went toward the nonprofit Bikes 4 Kids which is known for restoring bikes for children during the holiday season and on special occasions.

“It means a lot—seeing the community come together like they do for us and especially partnering with other charities as well,” Bikes 4 Kids Founder Charlie Bradford said. “That means way more than anything. When a community comes out and shows love for what you do, it makes it all worthwhile.”

Woody Quinn attended the pub’s fundraiser and spoke on the community’s support of the event.

“We try to support this town and everything they do,” Quinn said. “Any time they have a fundraiser, we try to be a part of it. This town—everybody supports everybody. We talk to so many people on Main Street that come from towns far away that love to walk up and down the streets of Columbiana. It’s just a cool place to be.”
