Girls from the Cub Scout Pack 44 Senior Webelos Den helped operate washers and dryers earlier this year. “Come on in and get your clothes washed. Sit down in the cool air and get yourself something to drink. And grab you some chips,” invites the wide-grinning greeter from behind a table laden with coin rolls, detergent bottles, and snacks. Dubbed “Lady C,” volunteer Carolyn Smith welcomes dozens of people to Reynolds Laundromat for Free Laundry Days nearly every other week. “The ‘C’ stands for compassion,” she explains, “because to do this work, you have to have love for the people.”

HE’LL GET TO APPEAL THE SENTENCE, NOT THE CONVICTION, ON OCTOBER 29TH IN RICHMOND. MURDAUGH IS CONTENDING HIS SENTENCE WAS OUT OF LINE WITH OTHER SENTENCES FOR WHITE COLLAR CRIMES. HE STILL IS IN JAIL SERVING HIS BACK-TO-BAACK LIFE SENTENCES FOR MURDERING HIS WIFE AND SON BACK IN 2021, CASES THAT ARE ALSO UNDER APPEAL. AND HE’S ALSO ALREADY SERVING NEARLY 30 YEARS FOR FINANCIAL CRIMES HE PLED GUILTY TO ON THE STATE LEVEL.
Tropical system could bring heavy rain to the Charleston area
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A tropical wave moving across Cuba is forecast to develop as it enters the Gulf of Mexico and nears the Florida west coast over the weekend. For now, the system is producing a large area of poorly organized showers and thunderstorms over eastern Cuba, Hispaniola, the southeastern Bahamas, and Jamaica, according to the National Hurricane Center.
Cane Bay Cobras Preseason Tests: Facing South Florence, Hanahan & Batesburg-Leesville
The Cane Bay Cobras are set for a challenging preseason under head coach Russell Zehr, with three tough scrimmages scheduled to prepare the team for the upcoming season. They will face last year's state champion South Florence on August 9, a team known for a strong passing game and a successful track record. Springsteen joins host of SC Public Radio show
Furman University’s Greg Springsteen, professor of chemistry, joined Mike Switzer on South Carolina Public Radio show “South Carolina Business Review.” The 2024 recipient of the South Carolina Governors Award for Excellence in Research, Springsteen spoke with Switzer about his investigation of metabolism and his theories about how life on primordial Earth began. Springsteen underscored the importance of undergraduate research and pointed out that while Furman’s work evolves at a slower pace than at R1 institution labs, the environment at Furman lends itself well to exploring big scientific questions. He said students at primarily undergraduate universities, like Furman, do a “fantastic job” of understanding the fundamental concepts in science behind metabolism and life.
