First Alert for Excessive Heat Monday and Tuesday
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - The heat is back and will bring First Alert days for excessive heat. Daytime highs will reach 100 with heat index values as high as 110 for both Monday and Tuesday. While we’ll be mainly dry, we could see an isolated storm risk Monday afternoon. The big thing to follow will be a strong cold front that will bring daily rain starting Wednesday. There will be a risk for strong to severe storms during that time, with rainfall amounts through Friday expected to be around 1.5″ to 2″. On the bright side, we’ll see some temperature relief with highs back in the 80′s. We’ll also have a pick day of the week. Friday will be mainly dry and sunny, giving us an opportunity to enjoy nice mild temperatures in the low to mid 80′s. Check back for updates.

Volvo Trucks Awarded $208M Grant
U.S. Senators Mark R. Warner and Tim Kaine (both D-VA) applauded an announcement from the Department of Energy that Mack and Volvo Trucks will be awarded over $208 million in federal funding through the Domestic Manufacturing Conversion Grant Program. The funding was made possible by the Inflation Reduction Act, which the senators voted to pass. The funding will upgrade operations, sustain 7,900 union jobs, and create 295 new jobs in Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. In Virginia, it will support electric heavy-duty vehicle production at Volvo’s New River Valley (NRV) truck manufacturing facility by creating a mixed model assembly line. Warner and Kaine wrote a letter in support of Mack and Volvo Trucks’ application earlier this year.

Institute Looking to Add Fifteen Members to REACH Program
(Danville, VA) – Coming on the heels of an announcement by Virginia Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine that Virginia would be receive nearly $2 million dollars in funding for Public Health AmeriCorps programs last week, the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research has allocated their portion of the grant to expanding membership in the Regional Engagement to Advance Community Health (REACH) AmeriCorps program.
