    Reading Challenges for all ages

    Kids and Teens, ages 0-17: Choose your reading goal and pick up a prize book when you reach it, through Aug. 31, and enter the grand prize drawing.

    Adults: Submit book reviews at the library or online at sherwoodoregon.gov/library through Aug. 31. Each review enters you into weekly drawings for coffee shop gift cards. Grand prizes include book lover’s gift baskets and $25 Powell’s Books gift cards.

    Summer Events

    Tuesdays at 11 live events at Cannery Square Plaza in Old Town Sherwood

    Louis Foxx, Magician — Magic, comedy, cowboy tricks, hand shadows and much more! July 2, 11-11:45 a.m. July 2.

    Rhys Thomas, Jugglemania — Rhys can ride a tall unicycle while juggling all manner of objects. 11-11:45 a.m. July 9.

    Habiba’s Village, African dance — Join us for stories from Ghana, Guinea, Gambia and Senegal using poetry, rhythm and dance. 11-11:45 a.m. July 16.

    Goat Party — Celebrating all things goats with science, technology, engineering and math, explore activities, crafts and an obstacle course. 11-11:45 a.m. July 23.

    Fly Guy Party

    Meet the famous character in the library, get your picture taken together, and enjoy activities. 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 6.

    Bilingual Storytime in the Park / Hora de cuentos bilingüe en el parque

    Our ninth annual camp-like experience with activities for children and families returns 10:30-11:30 a.m. Thursdays, July 11-25, at Stella Olsen Park. Los jueves, del 11 al 25 de julio, de 10:30 a 11:30 a.m. en el parque Stella Olsen.

    Miniature Castle Making Contest

    Submit your castle (9-inches-by-9-inches-by-9-inches or smaller) July 1-July 14. Award categories are: Most Literary, Most Creative, Most Medieval, Most Miniature, Best Group Submission, Best Entry by Age: 5-9, 10-14, 15-19, 20+. See full rules at sherwoodoregon.gov/library .

    Storytimes

    Join us for an interactive and inclusive session where we read books, sing songs and play action rhymes.

    Baby Storytime — 10:15 a.m. Thursdays. Designed for ages 0-12 months and their caregivers.

    All Ages Storytime — 9:30 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. Wednesdays. Designed for youth, ages 0-6 years, and their caregivers.

    Book Groups

    Adult Book Discussion

    We are discussing “Horse” by Geraldine Brooks. The first 10 to register receive a free copy of the book, thanks to Friends of Sherwood Library. 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 10.

    Fiction Friends

    Read a book in advance, then discuss together and enjoy an activity. Free copy of “Tales of a Seventh-Grade Lizard Boy” by Jonathan Hill available while supplies last, thanks to Friends of Sherwood Library. 4-5 p.m. Thursday, July 11. In-person and Zoom. Grades 6-8.

    Paperback Pals

    It’s so much fun to talk about books with pals who enjoy reading. A free copy of “The House on Sunrise Lagoon: Marina in the Middle” by Nicole Melleby is available at registration while supplies last, thanks to Friends of Sherwood Library. 3:45-4:45 p.m. Thursday, July 18. In-person and Zoom. Grades 3-5.

    Book Buddies

    Enjoy talking about “The Lighthouse Family: The Storm” by Cynthia Rylant with kids your age and an activity to follow. A free copy of this month’s book is available at registration while supplies last, thanks to Friends of Sherwood Library. 3:45-4:45 p.m. Thursday, July 25. In-person and Zoom. Grades K-2.

    Sherwood Public Library, a Washington County Cooperative Library Services member library and department of the city of Sherwood, is located on the first floor at 22560 S.W. Pine St. Hours: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays; 1-5 p.m. Sundays. All parking is free in downtown Sherwood.

    The library will be closed Thursday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day. Materials may be returned to the book drop located at the Pine Street entrance. Access your library account 24/7 at wccls.org .
