In a 9-to-2 vote on Monday, the City Council voted to approve a measure to schedule an informal meeting for the purpose of a presentation on the proposal and to schedule a public hearing to determine if the property at 827 Green St. be approved as a location of a running horse racing track. ...
After undergoing Tommy John surgery, Shrewsbury's Griffith returns to mound for Bravehearts
WORCESTER ― It was an indelible and, for anyone who knows Ben Griffith, an inevitable moment. The 6-foot, 175-pound right-hander from Shrewsbury came on in relief and pitched a scoreless inning to earn the win as the Worcester Bravehearts defeated the Futures League Road Warriors, 7-3, on June 8 at Fitton Field. ...
Legacy Tournament: Intriguing mix of ’25 talent on the attack
DEVENS, Mass. -- As usual, the Legacy tournament, held in Fort Devens late last month, was a massive event. This year I decided to only watch the Double-A groups in an effort to watch more top-tier players in both the 2025 and 2026 classes. When there are so many teams, decisions like that have to be made.

Swimming Pools in Central Mass
The Department of Conservation and Recreation has multiple pools in Central Mass that also offer free swimming lessons. These pools are a great place to cool off during the summer. They all offer free parking, and the hours of operation for free swimming are 11:15am to 6:45pm. Most of the pools also offer free swim lessons in the morning. The instructors are certified through the Red Cross Water Safety Instructor program. This is the same program that the majority of gyms and YMCAs require of their teachers. When I was in college, I worked at the Clinton State Pool as a guard and teacher. It was a great summer job, and while my daughter is too little to enroll in classes this summer, I know when the time comes I’ll definitely sign her up!
