Carrie Newcomer performs with Gary Walters and Gathering of Spirits at Goshen College

GOSHEN — Singer-songwriter Carrie Newcomer returns to Goshen College for a performance with pianist Gary Walters and The Gathering of Spirits String Quartet at 7:30 p.m. May 17 in the Music Center.

She attended Goshen College for two and a half years and was the school’s featured speaker at its 118th commencement ceremony in 2016, where she was presented with the college’s first honorary degree: a bachelor’s degree in music for social change.

Since her 1991 debut album, Newcomer has released 19 albums, including critically acclaimed solo works such as “A Great Wild Mercy,” “Geography of Light,” “The Gathering of Spirits” and “The Beautiful Not Yet.”

The Elkhart native also has released three books: 2021’s “Until Now: New Poems,” 2016’s “Carrie Newcomer the beautiful not yet Poems, Essays and Lyrics” and 2014’s “A Permeable Life.”

She also writes about music on Substack.
