SOUTH BEND — John Adams High School was placed on a "Hold" Friday morning after a student had a medical emergency, and the school is currently experiencing a power outage affecting phone and internet services.

South Bend Community School Corporation Communications Director Andrew Goetz said the two incidents are unrelated.

According to an email sent from John Adams High School Principal James Seitz, the Hold lasted from 10:05 to 10:10 a.m. on Friday, in order to "keep the hallways clear for paramedics to enter the building because of a medical emergency." Goetz said a student experienced a medical emergency related to a condition they were previously aware of, and paramedics took them to a hospital.

Goetz said the medical emergency was not drug-related.

The power outage has affected phone and internet services at John Adams High School and Lincoln Elementary School , and Goetz said the surrounding area is also experiencing an outage. According to the outage map on Indiana Michigan Power 's website, since 12:29 p.m., 2,075 customers have reported outages in the Unite neighborhood of South Bend, which is near the reported outage.

The outage map estimates power to be restored by 3:30 p.m. on Friday.

Goetz said the outage is forcing early dismissal for both Adams and Lincoln today.
