SOUTH CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – A local library will soon be able to start a new chapter after suffering damage from the severe storms that hit the Tri-State back in April.

The South Charleston Public Library has announced they’ll be reopening on July 8. The building has been under repair for more than two months.

More than 40,000 books had to be reshelved, and the roof and flooring were replaced. After the storm, South Charleston Public Library Director Todd Duncan told WOWK 13 News about 1,200 books and a portion of the carpet were damaged from being exposed to the rain but they are close to reopening. They had originally hoped to open by May 2.

The library posted to its Facebook page on Friday that all checked-out materials have been renewed until Thursday, Aug. 8. However, the front and rear book and media drops are currently open.
