CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — A South Fork woman is facing charges after seven dogs were found in a deplorable home with scars from fighting.

Kathleen Gaunt, 51, is facing cruelty to animal charges after police were called to a home on Grant Street after neighbors reported that they were worried for the dog’s safety, according to the criminal complaint. On June 3, the Humane Society Police Officers of Cambria County received reports of multiple dogs barking and attempted to get into contact with the owner by leaving a notice at the property.

On June 21, humane society officers went with police to the home to assess the situation. They reported that there was a strong smell of urine and feces coming from the home, according to the affidavit. They were able to see that floors were covered in feces and garbage through one of the windows. Police then got into contact with Gaunt, who was the owner of all the dogs.

Gaunt admitted to officers that the seven dogs had never been to a veterinarian, according to the complaint. All dogs were “infested with fleas and had multiple scars from what appeared to be bite wounds” from the other dogs,” police wrote.

During the process of removing the animals, one of the dogs viciously started to attack another dog and had to be tased to get it to let go of the other animal. Gaunt then allegedly told officers that the dog who bit was continuously attacking the other dogs.

Gaunt also told officers that she had been living at an address in Duncansville while the dogs were in the home on Grant Street, according to the complaint. Police called the home on Grant Street deplorable and unlivable.
