Washoe County offers ways to beat the heat
Northern Nevada is under an excessive heat watch. For seniors who need a break, the Washoe County Senior Center will extend its hours through July 12. The center, located at 1155 E. Ninth Street in Reno, will be open this weekend from noon to 7 p.m. and from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays.

Man killed last week in rollover on Mount Rose Highway identified
The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office on Friday identified Gustavo Estrada Pacheco, 19, of Sun Valley as the victim in a fatal rollover crash on Mount Rose Highway and Thomas Creek Road last week. The Nevada State Police responded to the single-vehicle crash just before 11 p.m. Friday, June 28 on Mount Rose Highway. The medical examiner's office ruled Estrada Pacheco's death accidental resulting from blunt force injury to the neck due to the rollover. An Excessive Heat Warning goes into effect for the Truckee Meadows on Saturday and goes through Wednesday, unless the National Weather Service in Reno decides to extend it. An Excessive Heat Warning is issued when the heat risk reaches major or extreme levels. When the heat index reaches major levels, it means the heat could impact anyone, even those in good health. Moderate levels are more so for those who are sensitive to the heat. There can also be some impacts to infrastructure and businesses when it gets too hot. A Heat Advisory is issued when the heat risk reaches moderate levels, which is what the Lake Tahoe area is under this weekend into next week.
