Ask Joe: WCSD fights plan for new charter school in North Valleys
Reno, NEV — From the Ask Joe file one of our viewers asked why the school district is fighting plans for a new charter school in the North Valleys?. Mater Academy school officials say they did everything that was asked of them. They got approval from the Nevada Department of Education to start up a charter school on North Hills Boulevard in the North Valleys and followed all city of Reno regulations to obtain a use permit for the facility. The city approved a use permit in June but the Washoe County School District and other education groups appealed the city's decision.
Hidden Valley flood cleanup is underway
All hands are on deck, Washoe County road crews are currently in the Hidden Valley area cleaning up the mud flow and debris from last Sunday's flash floods. According to Washoe County Officials, the cleanup could take up to a couple of weeks to complete but say the roads in the area are passable.

Travelers planning to use Interstate 15 near the Nevada/California state line, found themselves at a standstill as the major thoroughfare was closed in both directions south of the boundary, following an incident where a semi-truck hauling lithium-ion batteries caught fire.
